FAQs about Our Bar Exam Tutoring
Our work is derived from Jay Bijlani’s years-long experiences as a grader of the California Bar Examination and as a full-time clinical professor and lecturer at multiple California ABA-accredited law schools. While others may speculate as to the expectations of the bar graders and unwittingly follow threads of misinformation posted online and by other bar review providers, you will be empowered by the knowledge that only a former bar grader can impart and the pedagogy that academic success law faculty routinely trust. The sophistication of this duality and the care we devote toward your success will hopefully earn your admiration.
In short, our goal is your success. We do not merely give you advice on the essays, PT and MBEs or lecture on the substantive law. We focus on teaching essential lawyering skills that are tested on the bar exam and invaluable for your legal career. With our dedicated approach, you’ll be well-prepared to excel not just on the exam, but in your future as a lawyer.
Former California bar exam grader and law professor Jay Bijlani personally grades all submitted assignments in our bar prep program. Unlike many other bar prep providers who delegate this crucial responsibility to less experienced trainees, we take pride in Jay’s firsthand training from The State Bar, ensuring you receive top-notch feedback and support.
Jay is committed to owning every aspect of your preparation, which includes:
- Personalized grading of all your written work
- Conducting all tutoring sessions
- Optimizing your study schedule for maximum efficiency
- Providing emotional support during this stressful time
With Jay’s dedicated approach, you’ll benefit from expert guidance tailored to your needs, setting you up for bar exam success.
You are welcome to visit Jay Bijlani at his home office for personalized bar prep sessions if you prefer in-person learning. Alternatively, if you want to avoid traffic or are located outside California, we offer convenient video chat options through platforms like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and FaceTime.
While most of our students come from major California cities such as San Francisco, San Jose, Oakland, Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Diego, and Orange County, we proudly support students from across the globe, including those studying from New York to New Zealand. Our flexible learning options ensure that you receive expert guidance for the Bar exam no matter where you are.
Yes, we understand that many law graduates face financial challenges, requiring income during Bar exam preparation. Before all else, we assess whether balancing a job with your Bar exam preparation is feasible based on your skill level, available study time, and your ability to complete assigned tasks effectively.
Jay Bijlani will provide you with a personalized and honest assessment to determine the best approach for your situation before you enroll in an Esquired program. Our goal is to ensure that you can successfully prepare for the California Bar Exam while managing your work commitments.
Yes, we routinely work with first time takers who are recent law school graduates or attorneys from other jurisdictions. A first time taker enrolled in our program will NOT need to concurrently enroll in California bar review course by a major provider, as these are not supplemental programs!
Yes, from the ground up, we provide tailored bar exam preparation for foreign-educated lawyers and LLM graduates seeking to practice law in California. Our program is designed to address the unique challenges these candidates face, including understanding the substantive law tested on the California Bar Exam.
With expert guidance from former California bar exam grader Jay Bijlani, we help foreign lawyers and LLM graduates navigate the learning objectives, ensuring they are well-prepared to succeed. Whether you’re transitioning from another legal system or enhancing your qualifications, our comprehensive approach supports your journey toward bar admission in California.
Yes, one cannot ignore 50 percent of the bar exam! We will teach you an effective strategy for attacking the MBE, schedule subject-specific sets of MBE questions on your PrepPlan, and keep tabs on your progress toward defined benchmarks. Furthermore, we provide the substantive law for each of the subjects tested on the MBE.
Before our start together, you will need motivation and openness. Motivate with your professional goals in mind and be open to our formative guidance.
No one is happy about having to take the Bar exam and you may even have previously been unsuccessful at it. Take some time to mourn those facts and then emerge as a fighter by understanding that so many of your goals will be realized through targeted and dedicated skills development.
We typically enroll students for our programming as follows: October through December for the February administration, and March through May for the July administration. Because we routinely fill our roster soon after the results of the previous bar exam post, we encourage you to contact us early in the enrollment period.
